The sun may be shining, but the British countryside is still filled with shadows...
From village fairs and heritage sites to big cats and isolated churches,
Darkened Hill & Dale unveils the lurking horrors of the modern British countryside in seven system-agnostic scenarios.
A mix of cosmic and folk horror, the scenarios contain unique situations and threats to negotiate, and are intended to run in 1–3 sessions and with a variety of systems.
While these scenarios are set in Britain, most should be adaptable to other locations as they’re all based in fairly rural locales. Suggested frames for player groups and notes on scenario structure are included.
Darkened Hill & Dale is provided with a folder containing 21 pieces of handout ephemera (3 items per scenario) for players including maps, news articles, folklore book extracts, flyers, and more.
Darkened Hill & Dale is also accompanied by access to a collection of location reference photos and a spoiler-free content warning list for GMs to share with players, and background images for use on virtual tabletop platforms.
This edition of Darkened Hill & Dale also includes a copy of the digital (PDF) edition; these files will be available to download immediately following purchase. The digital edition includes the full book in PDF format, a digital version of the player handouts, a spoiler-free list of content warnings, background images for use in VTT games, a collection of location reference photos, and a link to the Patchwork Fez Games Discord community.

An outstanding scenario collection. It’s rare these days that I’m so impressed with the quality of an RPG supplement/scenario pack to write a review, but this is one of those rare occasions. Darkened Hill & Dale is a collection of folk horror scenarios with a delicious dark twist. Well-written with an accompanying full-colour handouts pack for players (a great touch), the book contains seven scenarios, all of which are systemless but contain enough information to make it an easy job for GMs to convert for their preferred set of rules. I bought the physical hardback version which came with a PDF version of the book and handouts and I’ve been very impressed with both the physical and electronic versions of this product. I can’t wait until I can torture…err, run these scenarios for my players’ enjoyment. If you’re in need of this genre of scenarios, why not take a chance and support a small company, you won’t be disappointed.
Well, all in all a really excellent product. Just reading the scenarios was enough to get my creatives running, but considering that the price included the harback copy, the pdf, handouts for players and message from Sarah, and with postage included, I really am most impressed and will be keeping a careful eye onPatchwork Fez for further products. Highly recommended, many thanks to all involved.
Fantastic set of horror scenario ideas easily convertible into the RPG system of your choice.
The author is obviously has a passion for thier work and even the packaging reflected this.
Excellent collection of system agnostic scenarios.
I have really enjoyed the creative perspective on Folk Horror in Darkened Hill & Dale. I have yet to use the scenarios with a gaming group, but have already enjoyed reading through them. The quality of the production is wonderful as well.
